The British people entered WW2 with the worlds greatest Empire, the world's greatest Navy, and was still in the top three manufacturing powers.
By 1945, Great Britain was bust. Bankrupt.
In the past fifty years, both the US and UK have removed the VAST majority of MANUFACTURING to China, India Brazil and other gutters of the Third World, and replaced that with - what? IT, Finance and Investments, and retail, much of it garbage low paid work, leaving the people with nothing to spend on anything but what they NEED, not what they want.
