In reality the following are either certainly or most likely true:

King Edward VIII was removed from the throne because the Powers That Be found the alleged strength of the "Windsor" claim to the throne via the Hanoverian bloodline was not what it could be, and he wouldn't take Bowes-Lyon (the Queen Mother had that strong blood link via the Stuarts) as his wife....
But it isn't what they were it is what they represent, Washington the American hero, Victoria Queen Empress, Edward VIII the great love story etc.

Fawkes, Catesby et al were working in league with the Vatican - the Jesuits are after all a military order, purposefully given the task of countering the Reformation - to violently remove James I & VI off the throne and replace him with some lackey and lick-spittle who would grovel to the Cardinals, Bishops and priesthood of the (as was then perceived) Babylonian Whore church in Rome. Involving yourself in such a plot can be a dangerous thing, as these traitors (treason is after all working for a foreign power) found out.
If anything, the majority of the conspirators were useful idiots of the Society of Jesus.
It is interesting that there was no evidence found of tunnel or rubble when excavations were carried out in 1823. There were many behind the scene moves to allow those who swear allegiance to Rome into the House of Commons (attained finally in the 1829 Toleration Act) at the same time: it is not beyond possibility that any evidence was destroyed at the scene to forestall action against the toleration of Catholics (and more importantly Jews) in Parliament, by raking up the Gunpowder Plot.

To compare the legal systems of today to those of 1600AD is fatuous, the sort of false comparison beloved of the multiculturalists. I further suspect the author is one of a recent stream of papists and fellow travelers who have written biased worthless garbage about the period.
